Comet Lovejoy is moving near different fascinating objects everyday and is giving us mortals the wonderful opportunity to see the wonderful show it has put up for us.
Here, starting from the left one can spot the dark dust lanes in the constellation Perseus, the California Nebula ( Red color ), The Pleiades Cluster ( blue in color ) and the spectacular comet Lovejoy ( C/2014 Q2 )

Copernicus and Eratosthenes

Bigger of the two, Copernicus is a lunar impact crater (93 km) located in eastern Oceanus Procellarum. It was named after the astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus. It has a prominent #ray system. #Young and isolated formation with hexagonal form. Bright rays all around. Its slopes are very steep at a drop of 900 m. Three central mountains (1200 m). Hills and ruins in the arena.

Copernicus is visible using binoculars, and is located slightly northwest of the center of the Moon's Earth-facing hemisphere. The circular rim has a discernible hexagonal form, with a terraced inner wall and a 30 km wide, sloping rampart that descends nearly a kilometer to the surrounding mare.
Eratosthenes #crater (60km) is a relatively deep lunar impact crater that lies on the boundary between the Mare Imbrium and Sinus Aestuum mare regions. It forms the western terminus of the Montes Apenninus mountain range. It is named after ancient #Greek #astronomer Eratosthenes of Cyrene who estimated the circumference of the Earth, and the distance from the #Earth to the Sun.

Theophillus and Cyrillus under below average seeing conditions.
The rim of Theophilus has a wide, terraced inner surface that shows indications of landslips. It is 4200 metres deep with massive walls and has broken into a second formation, Cyrillus. It has an imposing #central mountain, 1,400 metres high, with four summits.

The floor of the crater is relatively flat, and it has a large, triple-peaked central mountain that climbs to a height of about 2 kilometres above the floor. The crater is 100 km in diameter.

The Apollo 16 mission collected several pieces of basalt that are believed to be ejecta from the formation of Theophilus.

The little crater on the right is Madler.

The lagoon in via lactea

The Lagoon #Nebula (Messier Catalog No. 8) is an emission nebula visible in the #heart of the milky way. It is the eighth object discovered by the #great #astronomer Charles Messier (France). On a #dark site, you can see it with your unaided eyes. It appears about two times the size of the moon, but extremely faint. The #deep filament structure you see here are hydrogen #gas clouds which glow due to the excessive #heat and pressure of stars embedded deep in the Nebula.

Light takes about 5000 years to reach us from there due to it's distance. Light takes about 100 years to move from one end to the other. In comparison, light takes about 2 years to travel from one end of the solar system to the other.

This image was captured from my heavily light polluted terrace by putting a special filter which captures only the light emitted by excited hydrogen.

Tycho is a very young crater (only 100 million years old), due to which it has very high walls (about 14500 ft). It’s central mountain peak is about 1500m in height and is one of the most prominent craters (visible with the unaided eye) on the surface of the moon moon.

At a diameter of 86 km, it is about the size of the National Capital Region (NCR) of India.
